Leave a lasting gift for generations to come

Leave a Legacy in Portage Parks

Plant a native tree in honor or memory of someone special and help reforest conserved land for children, grandchildren, and future generations.

Rooted in celebration, memory, and care for the land.

The Reforest Portage Parks program was launched by a gift from the Portage Park District Foundation in honor of the Park District's 30th anniversary. That founding gift reforested thirty acres of land in Portage Parks.

This program gives the public an opportunity to leave a lasting environmental gift in honor or memory of someone special or for themselves. As the planted trees grow and flourish, future generations will benefit from healthier forests on conserved land.

Why Forests Matter

Forests are living infrastructure. They protect water, support wildlife, improve air quality, and create places of peace and renewal.

💧

Protect Clean Water

Forests shade streams, reduce flooding and erosion, filter sediment, and improve water quality.

🌳

Build Resilience

Reforesting with diverse native species makes forest communities healthier and more resilient.

🦉

Create Habitat

Forests provide critical habitat for native plants and animals, including species that need large, mature forests.

Restore Faster

Without help, it can take 150 years for a forest to develop on open land. Active reforestation helps heal the landscape.

🍃

Improve Air Quality

Forests help offset pollution and contribute to cleaner air for the community.

🌱

Grow Biodiversity

Planted trees become native seed sources that support continued forest regeneration.
